STEAM
CURRICULUM
The Corte Madera STEAM curriculum is developed based on California State Standards, in alignment with PVSD's goals and priorities. All of our students are provided a high-quality program that motivates, engages, and challenges them to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Grades 4 - 6 STEAM
The STEAM acronym stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. All of these academic disciplines rely heavily on each other, and are highly integrated in the professional and academic world. For example, an engineer will apply scientific knowledge about the chemistry of materials, mathematics, computer simulations and physics when designing a bridge. This course is intended to integrate the STEAM fields through project based learning.
Students will be engaged by frequent hands-on activities geared towards combining each of the STEAM disciplines. Creativity and collaboration will be encouraged as students solve problems. Students will be presented with challenges in which they draw upon their knowledge, collaborate with peers, and apply their own creative process to find solutions to the problem.
Overall, the goal of the course is to expose students to a variety of STEAM concepts like the engineering design process, coding, problem solving and robotics that will maximize critical thinking, innovation, productive struggle and collaboration.
