CURRICULUM
The Corte Madera Spanish curriculum is developed based on California State Standards, in alignment with PVSD's goals and priorities. All of our students are provided a high-quality program that motivates, engages, and challenges them to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Grade 6 Spanish 1A
Spanish 1A is a sequentially designed course for novice learners. Students will learn vocabulary, grammar, and language functions covering an array of every day topics that are embedded in cultural content from around the Spanish-speaking world. The topics include friends, family, school, descriptions, meals, shopping, and getting around town. The class activities are designed to create a safe and engaging way to learn Spanish, and the class will be taught primarily in the target language. There will also be an emphasis on a variety of language teaching strategies that foster students’ participation and engagement in the core skill areas of communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Grade 7 Spanish 1B
Spanish 1B is a sequentially designed course for mid-novice learners. Students will learn vocabulary, grammar, and language functions covering an array of every day topics that are embedded in cultural content from around the Spanish-speaking world. The topics include the home, sports, the body, technology, places of interest, dai;ly routines and vacations. The class activities are designed to create a safe and engaging way to learn Spanish, and the class will be taught primarily in the target language. There will also be an emphasis on a variety of language teaching strategies that foster students’ participation and engagement in the core skill areas of communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Grade 8 Spanish 2
Spanish 2 is a sequentially designed curriculum for mid-to-high novice learners. Students will expand their vocabulary, grammar, and language functions by covering a variety of everyday topics that are embedded in cultural content from around the Spanish-speaking world. The topics include travel, daily routines, sports, artisanal and commercial markets, legends, preparing and describing food. The class activities are designed to create a safe and engaging way to learn Spanish, and the class will be taught primarily in the target language. In addition, a variety of language teaching strategies will be utilized to foster student participation and engagement in the core skill areas of communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
